Introducing Immigration Volunteer Lizzette!
Since October, Lizzette Robletto-Gonzalez has volunteered with HCLC to assist us with our immigration and asylum casework. Lizzette came to the UK in 1995 from Nicaragua. As well as doing her placement with HCLC, Lizette also has a full time job as a Policy and Advocacy officer for 'Progressio', a non-governmental organisation working on international development issues and is studying for her Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at BPP Law school.
Every Friday, Lizzette has spent the day at HCLC, supervised by Senior Immigration Caseworker Hilton von Herbert, working on indefinite leave to remain cases, removal cases, Zambrano applications and other complex immigration casework. Lizzette says the highlight of her placement at HCLC has been to reinforce her views that services offered by HCLC to low income families will be even more vital as April approaches and the legal aid cuts kick in.
Hilton von Herbert praised Lizzette saying, "I would like to thank Lizzette for the immeasurable support and contribution that she has made to the law centre over the last 3 months. She helped me with the preparation that lead to us winning a particularly difficult EU immigration case where the judge had to invoke a very rarely used power to order the Home Office to carry out an investigation. I wish Lizzette all the best with her studies and brilliant future legal career".
