On Tuesday 1st April, HCLC Housing Solicitor Tayyabah Ahmed (pictured above) attended a special 'Ask The Expert' event at the House of Commons hosted by Stella Creasy, the Member of Parliament for Walthamstow.

Since April 2013, HCLC has been running a housing advice service in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, including operating a special housing law drop-in service at Lea Bridge Library every Tuesday morning.  Stella Creasy MP receives many requests for help with housing problems from her constituents and HCLC has taken on a number of the cases.

The 'Ask The Expert' event was part of the 'Home Sweet Home' campaign, which seeks to improve services and accountability in the private rental sector.  Tayyabah Ahmed contributed to a discussion with other experts and local residents affected by issues such as having to pay extortionate estate agents and letting agents fees.

As well as HCLC, and the housing charities Shelter and CrisisEmma Reynolds MP, the Shadow Minister for Housing (pictured above) spoke at the event. Tayyabah Ahmed said: "I was really pleased to attend Stella Creasy MP's 'Ask The Expert' event and contribute to the discussion on tackling bad housing practice in the private rented sector.  Since HCLC began operating a housing drop-in at Walthamstow's Lea Bridge library - just over 6 months ago - we have assisted nearly 300 clients, many with horrendous housing problems.

HCLC is delighted that Stella Creasy is working with experts, local residents and her colleagues in Parliament to try and tackle some of the abuses we are seeing".
